Background is over-dyed discharged black cotton. The "building materials" were chosen for texture and ability to reflect light. Building fabrics include heavy upholstery fabric, hand-dyed and commercial cottons, silks, acetate taffeta, velveteen and nylon net. During one of my sporadic "cleaning out" sprees, I found a portfolio of small pen and ink drawings of city motifs by my father, Myron R. Winder (1910-1980). He used to amuse himself while on business trips around the U.S. by sketching buildings and people in the dead hours. His sketches provided the inspiration for "Cityscape" which portrays an unknown mid-western city circa 1962. |
