Warren retired from the computer industry in California and began to develop a long time interest in fine art. He studied under several professional artists in Oregon, including Garve Beckham (Portland), Richard Hazelton (Depot Bay), George Hamilton (Lake Oswego), and Katheryn Davis (Florence). Northern California artists providing instruction were Rick Bennet (Los altos), Art Van Rhyn (Cambria Pines) and R, Marshall Smith (Saratoga). These instructors instilled basic concepts in the creation of two dimensional art.
Early art club memberships in Palo Alto and Grass Valley, CA, provided inspiration and motivation to continue painting and developing skills. Watercolor painting is full of special techniques (what great fun!) and club workshops and critiques increased use of those special effects and further refined fundamental skills.
Current membership in the Watercolor Society of Oregon and the Monday Morning Painters allow venues for the promotion of art sales and participation in events within the Florence area art community.
Four annual memorial Day weekend art shows (1995-1998) were organized and directed by Warren, at the Chateau Lorane winery, near the crossroads at Lorane, OR. This is a beautiful location, on the edge of Lake Louise, in a facility otherwise used for wedding receptions and special events. Local and Eugene area artists participated in these shows, which drew over 1,000 people for enjoyment of fine art, catered food and live music.
