Jan Woodford Shows Landscapes and Portraits at Dunes City Hall Gallery

Faces and Places, 2008 will be at the Dunes City Hall during the months of September and October. Both portraits and landscapes will be on display. One of the landscapes is Shining Water - seen here to the left.

DeVern Pinnock ~ Watercolor and Oil Paintings

The River Gallery will hold a reception for Florence artist, DeVern Pinnock, on Saturday, September 6th, from 1-3 p.m. DeVern Pinnock is the featured artist for September at The River Gallery. DeVern's watercolors and oil paintings have graced the walls of many local galleries. He won "Best of Show" at Celebrate Arts at the Florence Event Center in 2005 for one of his beautiful oil paintings. Doc tells us, "Explaining my view of living through art is what this show is all about. I have done so for many years, by drawing, painting and music. Hopefully I will be allowed to do so for many more years."

Saturday, September 6th: Artist Trading Cards

Announcing the first ever, in-person trading session for everyone interested in Artist Trading Cards, the biggest, little art movement to sweep the planet. ATC's, as the cards are called, are original works of art in any media with the only restrictions being: the dimensions must be 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches AND they may only be traded, never sold. The cards are fun to create and fun to trade. A new coastal trading group is being formed and the first meeting will be in the Bromley Room at the Siuslaw Public Library on Saturday, September 6 at 10:30. Bring cards to trade, or just come and learn about this fun phenomenon. The Siuslaw Library is at 1460 Ninth St., Florence. Coming in October: "Watercolor Society of Oregon’s 43rd Annual Transparent Exhibition and Conference"

The public is invited to attend a presentation on Adobe Photoshop Elements 6, by Linda Rothchild Ollis, Saturday, October 4, 1:00 – 2:30 pm at the Florence Events Center Theater. Rothchild Ollis’s presentation is part of the Watercolor Society of Oregon’s 43rd Annual Transparent Exhibition and Conference. This event, as well as Juror Linda Doll’s Lecture/Demo, Sunday the 5th, 11:15 – 12:45, are open to the community. Each event costs $10.00 at the door of the Florence Events Center.

October 3, 4, 5, 2008 - Katheryn Davis: Retrospective Show: Gallery Five

This Retrospective Show honors Katheryn Davis’s 30th Anniversary as a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon and holder of their top awards. Davis’s show of water media and oil paintings will hang in Gallery Five of the Florence Events Center as part of the Watercolor Society of Oregon’s 43rd Annual Exhibition. A public reception will be held Friday, October 3rd from 7 to 9 p.m. The exhibit runs for 3 days, Oct. 3rd through Oct 5th. For more information, please go to KatherynDavis.com.

Siuslaw Viewfinders Club ~ August 2008 Contest Winners

For the hot August 2008 Siuslaw Viewfinders Club contest with the theme of "Kids At Play," the winners are Betty Romero- 1st place, Jack Donahue - 2nd place, and Chris Dunn - 3rd place. In addition, featured photographs on the August page are by artists: Fred Hilden, Birgitt Lyon, Rick Marsh, Wim Mesman, Curt Peters, and Bryan Snider. Look forward to next month's contest with the theme of "Cars." The Club's next meeting is September 15th, in the Bromley Room at the Siuslaw Library, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Florence Events Center - September 2008 Shows

In Gallery One, The Dunes Art Club of Reedsport will be exhibiting in Gallery One of the Florence Events Center from August 25 to October 1, 2008.

The show will feature 15 artists who will display an array of worksusing oils, acrylics, watercolors, pen & ink, collage, colored pencil, graphite, photography, and other media. Three sections of the display case will feature designer jewelry, miniature paintings, pen & ink landscapes, rocks, and sculptures.

The Florence Events Center Art Gallery Committee consists of volunteers who judge, strike, and hang the art shows in Galleries One and Five throughout the year at the center. Most of these volunteers are artists themselves and in September they will be exhibiting their own artwork. It will be a varied show, consisting of many different art media: painting, photography, pastels, collage, strained glass and more.

BACKSTREET GALLERY ~ Pat Romanov - Patagonia Watercolors

Well known artist and thespian, Pat Romanov is the featured Artist at Backstreet Gallery for September. A reception will be held at the Backstreet Gallery September 13th from 3 to 5 P.M.

Her show revolves around her trip around Cape Horn. Paintings are from Patagonia (southern tip of South America, both Chile and Argentina) also Straits of Magellan and one from the Falkland Islands. There will also be a map of the trip, photos and a legend about each of the places Pat visited. This is as much a travelogue as an art show.
