DRAWING MADE EASY - BEGINNING DRAWING CLASS

Drawing Made Easy - a beginning drawing Class offered by Karen Nichols, Wednesday afternoons, 1:00 - 4:00 PM, Beginning Sept. 7 with the last class on Oct. 5th at the Laurelwood Recreation center on 12th Street.

Drawing is a skill that is essential to success in many other art forms. The masters made detailed drawings before embarking on their finished paintings and sculptures.

This class will make easier the transitioning to painting.. It will include information from Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, a course designed by Betty Edwards to foster creativity and improve drawing skills. Some materials will be included.

Skills to be covered:

1. basic art terminology
2. line quality, contour drawing
3. elements of art
4. tricks to achieve depth
5. perspective
6. Positive and negative space.
7. Getting the proportions correct
8. Still lifes, portraits, landscape
9. If time, some color theory may be covered.

Instructor Karen Nichols is a member of Backstreet Gallery, the Brush and Palette Club and the Watercolor Society of Oregon. Her painting and collage pieces have won several awards form the Celebrate Arts, the Siuslaw Library, the Rhoddie Festival and Backstreet art shows. In addition, her art has been displayed at other various venues around Florence. She won the logo design for CERTS and the Florence Festival of Books. She was the artist for the 2010 Empty Bowls Poster. Her works are part of various private collections around the states and as far away as Japan. She has a Bachelor of Arts from CSULA.
