Photo of artist Karen NicholsKaren Nichols is an award-winning Florence artist, relocated from Southern California where she was an artist and teacher. Her work has been shown at the FEC, Gallery Above the Silver Lining, Siuslaw Library, Mapleton Library, Old Town Coffee & Art Gallery, and has won several awards at the Florence Events Center and the Rhodie Festival Art Show. She is now a Backstreet Gallery artist. Backstreet Gallery is located at 1421 Bay Street opposite Mo's in Downtown Florence, where you can see her unique works.

Karen is a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon and also the Brush & Palette Club of Florence who show their works at Frames of Florence at 2285-1 Hwy. 101, Florence, Oregon.

Her pieces are executed in a variety of media—photography, bas relief paper painting, sculptures, acrylics, pencil on canvas, miniatures, and colored pencil. She also has a line of jewelry, Christmas ornaments and greeting cards. Her portraits of people, pets and homes in watercolor, acrylic, pencil or oils are available on commission.

She was the managing editor for Carapace Scrawler—a book of short stories and poetry written by local authors. Karen has also written several children's books, books of poetry, and is working on a novel.

A ray of sunshine, a drop of rain, a rainbow, wild horses, egrets, interesting buildings, or a child’s smile are but a few inspirations that motivate her artistry in photography, painting, drawings, composing or writing.
