Jan Woodford

"My family left Oregon when I was 5, and I always dreamed of returning to my home state. My husband and I realized that dream in 1998. At first the beauty of the Oregon Coast was so overwhelming that I concentrated all of my art on landscapes. I couldn't get enough of the rivers, lakes, streams and trees, or the Rhododendrons that seem to take over the area in May.

I still love to paint landscapes, but I've also returned to an earlier love~that of painting people. People's faces have as much variety as landscapes, and are just as interesting. Getting to know their personalities helps me add more dimension to the experience. I coordinate a group of artists who meet twice a month to paint portraits of people from life.

I paint in both oils and pastels. Both mediums have their advantages and rewards.

Whether painting landscapes or people, I'm sure I'll never run out of subjects to paint here on the Oregon Coast."
